There’s this inherent screenplay structure that everyone seems to be stuck on, this three-act thing. It doesn’t really interest me. To me, it’s kind of like saying, ‘Well, when you do a painting, you always need to have sky here, the person here and the ground here.’ Well, you don’t.
WHAT IS THE REILLY STORY COLLABORATION?
The Reilly Story Collaboration is the focused approach and examination of your story. It is a series of meetings, conversations and discussions about the greatness of movies and storytelling and how the iconic tales of movies we love will expand, shape and inspire your own creative idea, short film or screenplay. The process starts with a FREE CONSULTATION where Reilly and the client talk at length about the project. A series of verbal exercises will get to the heart of the story, shedding light on the writer’s true intentions for the script. Within this consultation, Reilly and the client will uncover and discuss the true potential of their movie concept.
What to expect from the free consultation:
· A brief discussion on the client’s favorite films and film influences; directors, actors, writers, etc; and the client’s goal for the project.
· Client will provide a brief overview of the story and state it is in (idea, finished script, etc).
· Following, a series of exercises that help expand and cultivate the story. Much like turning on the water in the morning and letting the rust run its course until you get to the clear water, the client is given tasks to help expand the current state of their project so they are able to write freely and confidently.
· The introduction of working with Reilly and forming a team! A team cheers on its teammates. A team is there to build momentum. And a team sets a game plan (number of pages a day, outline, character exercises and free-writing techniques) that can help *your idea and/or the work you are looking to polish or finish.
Once the free consultation is complete and the client agrees to a rate plan (client also reserves the right to turn down the process) Reilly will request the script/story/outline/treatment in which he will read and take notes. After, the client will schedule the collaboration to discuss Reilly’s thoughts. Written notes will also be provided.
After the initial free consultation the client can then choose a collaboration package that works for them and their wallet:
$50/hour for projects 1 to 25 pages in length (shorts, blogs, news articles)
$75/hour for projects 25-50 pages in length (shorts, treatments, outlines)
$175/ two hour full-length screenplay breakdown with notes. (full-length screenplays only.)
Sliding scale pricing plans available!
*Ideas for screenplays and stories not yet realized on the page are $50 dollars for a one-hour collaboration. These ideas can be for screen, television, short film or even blogs/articles/website posts.
Appointments can be made via Skype or if the client is local they can schedule an in person consult. Appointments by email and phone are also available.
Mark Reilly believes in a good story. And with the state the industry is in, with the endless reboots, sequels and remakes, the lack of original story telling is something that needs to change. Reilly always looks to the renaissance of the 80’s where the original story was king: Raiders of the Lost Ark, Star Wars, E.T., Ghostbusters, Gremlins – these are the movies that defined a generation. Reilly wants today’s writer to make their voices heard – to create GOOD STORIES – just like the movies everyone remembers, adores and quotes endlessly! That in mind, Reilly will work tirelessly with his client to help change the normal and set up the fantastic! As an instructor and consultant, Reilly has helped writers successfully develop their screenplays from concept to “Fade Out”. He has been fortunate enough to have worked in the industry with many of the leading producers and development representatives that have in turn, mentored and guided his own writing career. Reilly knows how important it is to have someone in your corner and as a part of your team.
In many cases, Reilly and his client will spend large amounts of time discussing and breaking down some of the most recognizable and popular movies of the past four decades in an attempt to shine the light on the client’s inherent story; laughing, sharing, spit-balling, collaborating until the true story and all its potential is unlocked!
Reilly’s goal is to help the writer succeed; for the STORY to succeed; so that his clients, be it a burgeoning storyteller, professional or first-timer realize a dream!
